IONIZATION

The air we breathe is essentially made up of oxygen and nitrogen. These electrically neutral gases can acquire positive and negative charges.

Oxygen + one negative electron = ion Negative
Oxygen Nitrogen - one negative electron = positive nitrogen ion

The natural ionization of air is of cosmic, solar or terrestrial origin (radioactivity, chlorophyll, rain, storms, pollution, etc.). The intense dissemination of the small negative oxygen ions transmit a negative charge of negative ions to these large, neutral ions. The large negative ions are then subject to the electrical phenomenon of mutual repulsion and precipitated to the ground with their dead micro-pollutants (animation available).

Why are the micro-pollutants always positive ?
The large, neutral ions suspended in the air have low mobility, whereas the small, negative oxygen ions are rapidly captured by the floor, metal furniture, fabrics and the walls. The large neutral ions which lose a negative electron or which capture a positive nitrogen ion are instantly returned to a positive state. The static electricity present on all television and computer screens is neutralized by the negative ions.
