Air in inhabited premises is from 100 to500 times more polluted than the air outside.

Remember - we spend 97% of our time living indoors ! The air in lounges, studies, leisure rooms, health care and rest rooms is often dangerously polluted. In addition to such pollution, other sources sometimes have to be added, such as the smell of tobacco. In a polluted atmosphere, there are no or only very few negative ions, contrary to the host of positive ions carried by the pollutants.

Medical circles and health organizations have recorded a disturbing increase in the number of respiratory and allergic disorders, including certain forms of rhinitis and sinusitis, asthma, and other respiratory disorders..
Similarly, hospitals have recorded that the curve of the so-called condo illnesses - headaches, neck pain, angina, coughs, conjunctivitis and infectious diseases - is on a worrying increase.

Life on earth would cease to exist without the stratospheric ozone layer situated at an altitude varying from 15 to 90 km which protects it from the sun's ultraviolet rays. The ozone layer is both a screen and a filter, essential for life.

On the other hand, ozone at ground level is a highly toxic gas that must be absent from ambient air. It causes eye irritations, respiratory and pulmonary disorders and can, in the long term, results in serious lesions.

A good negative ion generator must not therefore produce event the tiniest quantity of ozone.

The IONSRUS negative ion generators are silent and consume very little electricity (from 1 to 2 watts) ; their installation and maintenance are extremely simple. The IONSRUS negative ion generators are not fitted with fans, as stirring of the air contributes to maintaining and developing micro-pollution ; nor are they fitted with filters, which in any case would only retain micropollution. The IONSRUS generators diffuse the intense flow of negative oxygen ions that are essential for real, tried and tested efficacy. They produce neither ozone or nitrogen oxide, as measured by the most recent analytical techniques.

Plasma is a medium made up exclusively of free electrical charges (electrons, negative ions) crated by a high energy source. In this case, the VHV source produces primary electrons which transmit their energy by impact to the oxygen and nitrogen molecules in the ambient air. This transfer of energy creates oxygen atoms that are captured by the intact molecules, producing the ozone molecule with three atoms of oxygen.

The quantity of ozone created depends on :

• the value of the VHV used : exponential growth over 4600 V
  
• the extent of the plasma zone surrounding the VHV
  
• the fineness of the VHV tip (end radius)
  
• the nature of the metal of the tip

Furthermore, this production of ozone is accompanied by a rapidly increasing, undesirable and dangerous production of nitrogen oxides.

To reduce as far as possible the production of ozone and nitrogen oxides, it is essential :

• to reduce the radius of the tip (maximum fineness)
  
• to reduce the VHV below the critical value
  
• to use a non-oxidizing metal with high transmission of electrons
  
• and, above all, to ensure maximum confinement of the plasma zone (by a maximum reduction of its volume)

To date, only the IONSRUS system makes it possible to obtain a flow of high power negative oxygen ions without any production of ozone and nitrogen oxides.
